Five New Leaders Answer the Call

In a small corner of Haiti, where daily life is often defined by uncertainty, five men have just proven that no obstacle- not gang violence, not political upheaval, not years of delay- can stand in the way of God's calling on a life. This triumph comes in a timely manner.  October is Pastor Appreciation Month: a time to honor the men who faithfully lead, teach, encourage, and shepherd God’s people. In Haiti, that calling often requires extraordinary perseverance. This year, five men crossed the finish line of the Bible Training Center for Pastors (BTCP) program, a pastoral training initiative. What began in 2019 as a class of ten committed students concluded in 2026 with five graduates: five men who refused to let seven years of hardship extinguish their pastoral calling.

A Journey That Took Seven Years Instead of Three

The BTCP program includes ten comprehensive courses designed to prepare men for a lifetime of pastoral ministry. Under normal circumstances, the program could be completed in a few years. For these students, it took seven.

Haiti’s ongoing unrest, gang violence, unreliable transportation, and political crisis made every class session an act of courage. Roads that should have taken an hour to travel became dangerous journeys. Sessions were delayed, postponed, and rescheduled more times than anyone could count. Of the ten students who began in 2019, five were unable to continue.

But five stayed. Five kept showing up. And five now stand as living proof that discipline, faith, and determination can carry a person through hardship when the goal is to know God more deeply and serve His people.

Leaders Ready to Serve

Leading this year’s graduating class as valedictorian was Jean Hermilus Omilus. In his remarks, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to Haitian Christian Mission, Edwens Prophete, and you, the faithful donors whose financial support made the graduation, and the years of training before it, a reality.

These men are not simply holding certificates. They are pastors, teachers, and shepherds equipped to serve their churches, communities, and nation. Through years of studying God’s Word in difficult circumstances, they have been prepared to preach, teach, and lead.

At the graduation ceremony, HCM also presented each graduate with study Bibles, concordances, and biblical commentaries, all tools they can carry into their continued ministry.

Pastor Dorlus charged the graduates to press on and never back down from the work God has called them to, reminding them from 2 Timothy 4:2: “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.”

A Lasting Investment

HCM has believed from the beginning that investing in the training of leaders is one of the most powerful ways to invest in the future of the Church. Because of this partnership and donors who make this ministry possible, pastors and leaders in Haiti have ongoing access to sound, structured biblical training.

Five men walked through a door that God opened, despite every reason to give up. Five men are now ready to lead.

And this story is far from over. More leaders in Haiti are waiting for the opportunity to be trained, equipped, and sent out to serve. Your support helps make that opportunity possible.
