SARAZIN

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

History of Sarazin

The community of Sarazin is named after the first man known to settle in the area, a man who did not believe in God and followed dark practices. One day, he purchased a pig and buried it alive near a tree called mango jeremi. Over time, the community grew, relying heavily on agriculture for survival. Today, Sarazin is home to approximately 45,000 people, but the community faces significant challenges due to a lack of water for farming.

About the Church and Pastor

Pastor Gérard Darius has faithfully shepherded the people of Sarazin for more than three decades. Now 80 years old, Pastor Gérard has been in ministry for 32 years and has served with Haitian Christian Mission for 28 of those years. He was married to his late wife, Clely Jean, and together they were blessed with five children: three sons and two daughters. His unwavering dedication to sharing the Gospel and serving his community continues to inspire all who know him.

Success in the Community

Through the faithful work of Pastor Gérard and Christian Church of Sarazin, evangelism has brought many to Christ, transforming lives and families. HCM partners with the church to further the mission of hope in Sarazin. The community also has a school serving 230 students, though it lacks a permanent school building. Despite the challenges, God’s work is evident in the joy and perseverance of the people.

Challenges in Sarazin

Water scarcity is one of the greatest obstacles for Sarazin. Without adequate irrigation, farmers struggle to grow crops, and life becomes increasingly difficult. The land is producing less, and families work tirelessly just to make ends meet. Education is also limited, with too few schools to meet the needs of the growing population.

A Vision for the Future

Sarazin needs an irrigation system to water crops and improve agricultural production. Protecting the environment is also crucial. Preserving trees and preventing deforestation will help sustain the land for future generations. With the right resources and support, Sarazin can continue to grow in faith and resilience.
