BELLADÈRE
ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
History of Belladère
Belladère, whose name means “Fine Fleur,” is a community located in Haiti’s Central Plateau, about 72 kilometers from Port-au-Prince. Home to roughly 80,000 people, Belladère faces significant challenges, including poor infrastructure, lack of electricity, and limited access to sustainable farming. Many residents turn to trade with the Dominican Republic as their primary means of survival.
The Church and Its Pastor
Église Chrétienne de Belladère was planted on January 31, 2007, as the result of a small Bible study. Just four months later, the group began gathering for Sunday worship. Each year since, the church has celebrated its anniversary with a month-long conference in January, culminating in a joyful celebration on January 31. Though the building is not yet complete, the congregation continues to meet faithfully under a metal sheet roof. Today, the church has around 150 regular attendees, five deacons, and a small school serving 50 students.
The church is led by Pastor Turnier Montreuil, who was born in Port-au-Prince on October 27, 1970. He is married to Mitheau Robert, and together they have one son, who is 8 years old. Pastor Turnier has also adopted a 15-year-old boy and helps care for a young woman named Falonne, age 18. Although he lives in Port-au-Prince, Pastor Turnier regularly travels back and forth to Belladère to shepherd the congregation. Through his faithful ministry and evangelism, many people have come to Christ, and the church continues to grow spiritually.
Success in the Community
The church in Belladère has become a vital witness of the Gospel. Many people have turned from old ways and given their lives to Christ through the ministry of Pastor Turnier and the church family. The annual January conference is a powerful time of renewal and celebration, drawing the community together around God’s Word. The launch of the school is also a great success, providing education and hope for 50 students.
Challenges in Belladère
Despite these victories, the people of Belladère face daily struggles. Infrastructure remains a pressing issue, with a severe lack of latrines threatening public health. Farming is unproductive, forcing many residents to abandon agriculture and rely on small-scale trading with the Dominican Republic. The absence of electricity further limits opportunities for growth and development, holding the community back from its potential.
A Vision for the Future
Pastor Turnier longs to see Belladère become a place where pastors unite to proclaim the Gospel together. He also dreams of the government providing electricity to the city, which would be a valuable step toward development and better living conditions for the people. With continued investment, Belladère has the potential to grow both spiritually and practically, improving the quality of life for families while advancing God’s Kingdom.
